When I was younger, if I was under the weather I would power through and plough on regardless. My hip replacement taught me that if you look after yourself properly you heal quicker and better. It is frustrating but it works - hence why I’ve been sat at home all day looking at photos of better weekends rather than out with my bestie and I’ve missed two Christmas dinners in two days!! . #equestrianblogger #horsebloggers
The Christmas Non-Gift Guide . Last year I made a traditional Christmas Gift Guide and I still stand by last year’s ideas, all of which are still available, but this year I thought I’d do something different. One of my Mid Year Goals was to be a bit more environmentally friendly so here are my alternative gift suggestions . Vouchers/Money - This is an oldie but a goodie! The recipient of the gift can put it towards something they really want or need and will get proper use out of . Homemade - I’ve been leaning in this direction for the last few years with my family gifts. Two years ago I painted personalised glass baubles and last year I made scrabble-tile pictures in bought frames! If you’re not feeling particularly craft, cookies/fudge/truffles are also fairly easy homemade options and there are wonderful horse cake recipes for your four-legged friends . Favours - Not the wedding type! A less official present option would be offering up your time and energy to something. Maybe you could do someone’s mucking out to give them the day off or look after their pets so they can visit family of friends . Presence - “My presence is your present!” I think as you get older you realise the importance of spending time with the ones you love be that human or equine. I know that having some time off at Christmas will give me the chance to catch up with my family and spend unrestricted hours “playing” in the stable with Pea! . #christmasgiftguide #equestrianblogger #horsebloggers #equestriangiftguide #ecofriendly #christmasnongiftguide #ecofriendlychristmas
Last night we were wet and muddy but we didn’t wimp out! Sadly this morning, my throat is sore and thick - I think my metaphorical cup is empty! . #youcantdrinkfromanemptycup #horsebloggers #equestrianblogger #tired #winterlurgy
Did anyone else bail on riding in today’s stormy weather? Pea was hiding in the field shelter (though this picture is from the weekend as it was dark by the time I left school) so I left her there and opted for the gym instead . I don’t like wimping out of riding because it reminds me of the hip-pain, low-confidence days but I’m also trying to keep myself going health wise for the last week and a half at school. I ALWAYS get ill at the end of term and I’m desperately trying to prevent it! Sensible or pathetic? . #teacherproblems #endofterm #stormyweather #horsebloggers #equestrianblogger #winterblues

This rug is a GAME CHANGER! . At this time of the year, most of my visits to Pea are in darkness. This week has been foggy as well which normally makes it hard to find her in the field but not this week - I scan the torch around and the reflective chevrons of the rug give her away! . Pea has recently got herself into trouble being “EscaPea” and leaning over fences so she’s had a neck rug ban enforced. I treated her to this detachable neck rug and although the black isn’t quite as fun as the frenchies, I LOVE the reflective strips! . @derbyhouseltd #derbyhousehorses #reflectiverug #highvis #cosyandwarm #bleakmornings
